Ethnic minority employees believe that they face obstacles in their career development, and some feel forced to stop their employment in an effort to progress, says a latest study. The survey, investigated the levels of career ambition and subsequent career development of black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff in the UK. The survey discovered that, despite high ranges of ambition, BAME workers really feel that they’re promoted much less frequently than their white counterparts and almost 50% consider that they have to quit their organisation as a way to progress in their career. In line with the findings, BAME staff go on fewer training courses and lack entry to mentors – despite excessive demand for both as a way to progress their careers – and also have low confidence that their senior management treats all ethnic teams pretty.
